Rust Outpost Guide: Everything You Need to Know

Make the most out of one of the game’s best monuments by reading our Rust Outpost guide.

In the midst of all the chaos and battle, there’s an oasis in Rust that serves as a safe haven for players who need to take a break or want to pick up some goods. Outpost is a monument that is present in every single server. That’s why mastering it fully and learning the stuff it offers will help you gain an edge over other players no matter where you play.

In this guide, I’ll go over everything you need to know about the Outpost monument including the services and utilities, rules and restrictions, along with some advanced strategies that always help me in wipes.

If you want to maximize its benefits while avoiding costly mistakes, this is only the Rust Outpost guide you’ll need.

Complete Rust Outpost Guide

The Outpost is a safe zone monument in Rust where players can trade, recycle, and craft without fear of being killed by other players. This monument has tons of services and utilities but also comes with strict rules to maintain peace and order.

The Outpost is marked on the map with multiple shopping cart icons. The surrounding area is a hotspot for players so be extra cautious when making a trip there. Understanding how things work here is crucial for every Rust player’s survival.

Outpost: Services and Utilities

Outpost: Services and Utilities

Here are all the services and utilities that you can take advantage of in Outpost.

Vending Machines

Vending Machines allow you to purchase items from all over the map with the help of drones. You can buy from other players’ vending machines. Feeling lazy and don’t want to walk all across Outpost to another machine? Pay 20 scraps for a quick delivery.

The individual vending machines sell resources, weapons, and blueprints for scrap. While the ones with a larger screen let you trade stuff all across the map. The good thing about this is nobody else can take your order but you.

I always check for cheap guns and ammo from other players using these machines to get guns early in Rust.

Recyclers

If you want a safe place to recycle, there’s nowhere better than Outpost. It has an entire room with multiple recyclers where you can break down items into its raw materials without any fear of being attacked.

However, its safety comes with a small fee that gives you less yield. Also, make sure you don’t turn your back on your recyclers or leave them unattended while it’s recycling because players can steal your stuff.

Workbench

The Outpost gives you access to a Tier 1 Workbench for free. This lets you craft essential items and weapons that will let you get ahead in the early game. This utility is vital for the Nail Gun and Crossbow strategy to work.

If you like to play aggressively and PVP, this build will give you the means to snowball in less than one hour of being on a server.

Repair Bench and Research Table

Have you ever found a gun, syringe, satchel, or something worth researching during your looting trips? If you’re too far from your base or don’t have a research table, the best place to go to is Outpost. The research table will allow you to learn the blueprint of an item you found or stole so you can craft it in the future.

If you have tools and weapons or armor that is already worn out, you can use the Repair Bench in Outpost to restore it to nearly full durability.

Outpost: Rules and Restrictions

Outpost: Rules and Restrictions

The Outpost is meant to be a peaceful and orderly place. That’s why there are strict rules implemented. See those guards and scientists walking around? Yeah, they aren’t fully loaded for show only. Breaking these rules will result in getting attacked by the NPCs and getting banned from Outpost temporarily.

There are four golden rules written on a sign inside Outpost. It says: ‘No Weapons, No Looting, No Killing, No Sleeping’. Here’s what they mean.

No Violence

Don’t do unto others what you don’t want others to do unto you. That’s a simple but strictly implemented Outpost rule. Attacking other players or NPCs is forbidden in this monument. Doing so will result in getting shot down by the guards and turrets. It will also mark you as hostile (indicated by a red crosshair icon on the upper-right side of your screen) and prevent you from going near Outpost for a few minutes.

The area around Outpost is a safe zone, that’s why you can’t even equip or hold your weapon while inside.

But that’s not all. Even if you’re outside the safe zone already, as long as you’re within the range of the auto-turrets of Outpost, you can’t attack other players. You also can’t loot them inside the safe zone. But you can if you’re outside.

I always utilize this rule to bait other players into attacking me just right outside of the safe zone. As soon as they attack me, the turrets kill them and I grab all their loot. Easy money.

20-Minute Limit

Why would I need a base when I’m fully protected inside Outpost? No sleeping means that you can’t stay indefinitely inside the safe zone. If you sleep or log out of Outpost, you will automatically be shot after 20 minutes. The good thing is players still can’t loot you, so you can come back for your items later.

So if you’re running from a group or want to wait out hungry killers wanting to loot you, run as fast as you can into Outpost and wait for the storm to pass.
